Il Terroir che cambia (The Changing Terroir), the series of meetings that Poggiana dedicated to three scenarios symbolic of contemporary wine-making transformation, has come to an end. A journey that allowed participants to interpret the changes in the terroir through what we know best: wine in a glass.
Between climate, altitude, water and new environmental balances, the three evenings offered a concrete and in-depth look at how the territory is redefining its identity.
Seaside wines — 3rd of November
The first stop took the audience to coastal areas, where salt air and extreme heat directly influence the minerality, freshness and structure of the wine. Through the wine glasses, it was observed how the coastal regions — increasingly exposed to climatic fluctuations — are rethinking techniques and styles, seeking a new balance. An evening dedicated to discovering how the power of the sea truly enters the glass.
Mountain wines — 24th of November
The second meeting shifted the focus to the hills, where altitude has become a refuge for viticulture. Slower ripening, marked temperature variations and vineyards climbing ever higher up the mountainside have provided an insight into how the mountains are experiencing a new vocation. The tastings showcased vertical wines that were fresh and precise, a direct expression of the high-altitude environment.
River wines — 1st of December
The third evening explored riverine territories, dynamic landscapes where landslides, erosion and water variations coexist with unique microclimates. A “liquid” terroir, constantly evolving, giving life to wines marked by resilience and rebirth. The tasting showed how water and soil can interact and profoundly influence aromatic profiles and identity.
Three separate events linked by a common theme: the terroir is changing, and wine provides us with the tools to interpret it. A journey of discussion, tasting and awareness, which has opened up new perspectives on the future of viticulture.
