Getting to know wine: three evenings to start reading the glass with awareness

Orientarsi nel Vino (Finding Your Way in Wine), the basic course that Poggiana has dedicated to those who want to take their first steps in the world of wine with confidence and curiosity, has come to an end. The course was designed to explain, in a simple and practical way, that understanding wine does not mean memorising technical data sheets, but listening to it, tasting it carefully and understanding the story it tells in the glass.

Three evenings that laid the foundations: essential theory, guided tastings and a practical approach to navigating grape varieties, styles, territories and production methods.

orientarsi nel vino

13 October – From the vineyard to the cellar + 3 wines for tasting

The first evening was devoted to the fundamentals. From the vineyard to the winemaking process, we explored what defines a wine’s identity, learning how to distinguish a white from a red, how to read a label and how to understand production choices. The tasting of three wines allowed us to immediately put the concepts we had learned into practice.

20 October – Sparkling wines & Passito wines: from aperitif to dessert + 3 wines for tasting

The second meeting led participants on a journey of discovery through two very different worlds: sparkling wines and sweet wines. By analysing production methods, sensory characteristics and possible pairings, the evening showcased the breadth and richness of these two categories. Here too, three selected wines accompanied the theory.

27 October – The art of ageing and Crus + 4 wines for tasting

The third and final evening addressed more complex topics: ageing, steel, wood, large barrels, areas and sub-areas, up to the concept of Cru and terroir. An in-depth analysis that highlighted how the same grape variety can express itself in profoundly different ways. The final tasting, with four wines, was the richest and concluded the journey with awareness and new insights.

A course that has enabled many participants to discover wine in the right way: with curiosity, taste and reliable guidance.
Because wine isn’t complicated, if you know where to start.
