The Autoctonando masterclass has come to an end, a journey that accompanied participants on a discovery of native grape varieties, their histories and the territories from which they draw their identity. A series of meetings that celebrated the uniqueness, rarity and cultural value of Italy’s wine heritage through guided tastings and stories intertwined with tradition, geography and biodiversity.
Each event featured six wines for tasting and a final surprise, transforming every evening into a rich and engaging experience.
27 January – Autochthonous: meaning and origin of such a unique species
The first evening kicked off the journey by exploring the meaning of the term “autochthonous”, its historical value and identity. It was a moment dedicated to understanding the grapes that have withstood the test of time, climate and territorial changes, while maintaining their connection to their roots intact.
10 February – Cultures, peoples and traditions: where it all began
The second meeting guided participants on a journey through peoples, migrations and exchanges that laid the foundations for modern viticulture. An evening in which history, anthropology and wine intertwined, showing how every wine is also the result of a long cultural journey.
10 March – The birth of new species and the uncertain fate of Vitis Vinifera
The third evening explored the evolution of the vine, from spontaneous mutations to human selection, also addressing contemporary challenges related to climate change. It was a fascinating insight, combining research, observation and tasting.
14 April – From plants to landscapes: the sense of place
The masterclass concluded with a reflection on the landscape: from the individual vine to the territory as a whole. An invitation to interpret wine as an expression of the place that produces it, recognising in its complexity the depth of an entire ecosystem.
